![]() What are the funding priorities for the Foundation? The Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation funds programs and activities that are primarily located in Montgomery County, Md. and benefit Montgomery County residents. The Foundation awards grants to local health and human service and arts non-profit organizations for specific projects that will demonstrably impact the local community by reaching people in need and encouraging and sustaining creative activities. Preference will be given to innovative approaches and programs. What is the history of the Foundation? The Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation was established in December, 2005. The Foundation, located in Bethesda, Md., serves as a vehicle for the founders, Jim and Carol Trawick, to continue their philanthropic activities. The Trawick’s are successful business owners and community activists. They have been long time supporters of the arts and health and human service causes. What is the average grant size and how much should I request? There is no steadfast rule as to how much an applicant should request for projects that fall within the mission of the Foundation. Requests for matching grants are encouraged. You can view the breakdown of grant awards from the first grant cycle on the website after January 1, 2008. Does the Foundation award general operating grants? No. The Foundation does not award grants for ongoing operating support. The Foundation awards grants that help launch a new project program or initiative. In addition, the Foundation awards capacity building grants that strengthen an organization’s ability to work towards its mission. Capacity building activities of interest to the Trawick Foundation include: board development, information technology and web development, financial management, management development and strategic planning. In some instances, expansion of a current program that furthers the organization’s mission will be considered. Does the Foundation award grants for capital campaigns, endowment funds, or special events? No, the Foundation does not award grants that support capital construction, fundraising campaigns or special events. Does the Foundation provide multi-year grants? The Foundation generally awards one-year grants but will consider requests for multi-year grants and challenge grants. Can I apply for a grant for a project that has been completed ? No. the Foundation does not award grants for projects that have been completed prior to the grant award. How do I apply for a grant? See How To Apply Do I need to submit a Letter of Interest? Yes. The Foundation requires a Letter of Interest prior to submission of a full proposal. See How To Apply Are there proposal deadlines? Yes. The Foundation has two funding cycles per year. Current application deadlines are spring cycle - March 31, 2008 and fall cycle - August 31, 2008. An organization is eligible to receive only one grant in a 12 month period. Does the Foundation use the Washington Grantmaker’s Common Application? Not at this time. How many copies of the proposal must I submit? Two copies of the proposal and one copy of the required attachments. See How To Apply If my organization is small and does not have an audit, what kind of financial information should be submitted? In lieu of an audit, your organization may submit year-end financial statements for the last completed fiscal year that have been reviewed by an outside financial professional. Once a proposal has been submitted, when will I be notified of the funding decision? All organizations will receive written notification verifying receipt of their proposal.
